1999: The year of the Elektrik Orgasm

It was more than a year ago when Elektrik Orgasm Records released its first 12", Mineralien Myriad by Nervasystem & Aether (Drezz & Lex). Since then, there have been three other 12" releases, The Seven Serpents, The Unknown Controllers and Cyborg Cybin, which certainly belong to the most exceptional of the last year. The first full length album from Nervasystem & Aether, The Mama Matrix Most Mysterious, has just arrived last month, only to seal that the Bristol-based label is here to stay!

Drezz is the one half of Elektrik Orgasm, and Mr. Nervasystem himself. He is from Bristol, UK, 28 years old, and as for his appearence, which might concern the female readers, he describes himself as being "green with pink spots". Nevertheless, a few answers from Drezz might reveal what is underneath these spots.

Avi:
In your music can be heard influences from many musical genres, amongs others, from jazz and funk. Could you name some of your favorite artists from your pre-psychedelic past?

Drezz:
I listen to a lot of music not just psychedlik, Lex (Aether) and I are always looking for music that sounds new and fresh, at the moment there's a lot of electronic music around that doesn't fit in to any paticular scene or genre, I quite like music that your can't pigeon-hole, at the moment I'm listening to a lot of Miles Davis, his late 60's early 70's stuff is amazing proto-freak out music of incredible intensity, also the australian music from the likes of Nik Taylor & all is pushing boundaries, really anything that is'nt cliched in any way the choice just seems to be more & more these days!

Avi:
Shamans, Buddhas, religious and spiritual experiences, and loads of 3rd eyes glowing under black-lights between fogs of grass. What does "psychedelic" mean for you?

Drezz:
psychedlic is a state of mind that you carry with you through life. it's very difficult to explain in rational terms i guess but i suppose for me it's seing all facets of the greater picture and being open to whatvever comes your way! it's so much more than just music & drugs.

Avi:
It is known that only a few people can make a living exclusively from the psychedelic scene. What about you? Are you busy with anything else as well?

Drezz:
i dont really make a full time livivg from music but music is my life, there's not really anything else i think i could do, certainly not a "real" job, so i'll just keep making music & see what happens (oh, and if any promoters or labels are reading this and want to fly me to sunny places to play amzing parties or offer me lucrative record deals then i am certainly available!!!!!)

Avi:
How would you describe the music you are currently into with three adjectives?

Drezz:
umm? well? aaahhh?

Avi:
What are the future plans of Nervasystem and Electric Orgasm?

Drezz:
we intend to continue building elektrik orgasm into a label that can release different types of music from dancefloor 12"s to more chilled & experimental stuff, but trying to move things forward always. fusion is a key factor in this. by fusing the electronic sounds with real played live instruments i'm sure is an exiting avenue to explore. music technology is very exciting at the moment, there's so many thing we can do with the sound now it's quite mind boggling! 3D ambisonic sound is something we're getting into, that's quite mad, sound flying over your head, under your feet, behind you!

i really think we've only just started, i still think the music is quite primitve in a way and we are going to hear some quite incredible things in the next five years or so! also we are getting our website together, this is very late in coming, so sorry to anyone who has tried to find us, we will be up soon. when the site is up & going i plan to release all the unreleased nervasystem/elektrik orgasm musik from the last five years on mp3 for free! there are a lot of tunes that i/ve saved just for parties in the past and have never been released so if people want this music they can get it for free now!

we also plan on doing a big free party in the uk in the summer, we always do one and it,s always free, this year should be good, more like a little festival than a party, going on for 2 days or so, i will try to post up some info about this as it firms up, but we'll have lots of different music, performance, area's, visuals , it'll be quite mad hopefully!

Avi:
We will stay tuned, thanks a lot Drezz!

The Mama Matrix Most Mysterious is a 70 minutes psychedelic journey through various states of sound and mind. The album begins with a couple of dance tracks, with fat and juicy lines, and evolves to an absolute mind manipulation, taking the listener into a psy-blend of jazz, dub, ambient, and live instrumentation. Certainly, not just a collection of dance tracks, but a totally funky psychedelic experience. Batonnet for your ears!
